Exams

Each new patient receives a comprehensive new patient exam. All exams include full evaluation of soft and hard tissues. The soft tissues include oral cancer screening, evaluation of periodontal health and all tissues in the mouth. The evaluation of hard tissues including: jaw joints, bone height and the teeth themselves. Therefore, the dental exam is an excellent preventative measure, allowing our team to evaluate dental disease and risks of oral cancer. Dr. Govani and her team will go over findings and help to educate you to better maintain your dental and overall health. In addition, some preventative measures can even be completed during your dental exam appointment.

X-rays

Dental X-rays are imperative for a full view of your oral health; they give us baseline benchmarks and to see disease that a visual exam alone cannot. The human eye can only see 30% of the tooth. Moreover, x-rays enable Dr. Govani and her team to see baseline health as well as decay, bone loss, nerves, sinuses and to rule out pathology. X-rays are a diagnostic tool for comparing your teeth’s current condition to their previous state. We will determine how often you need dental X-rays based on your age, oral health habits, signs of disease or decay and risk factors for future dental issues.

Teeth Cleaning & Tissue Maintenance

Having your teeth cleaned professionally has many benefits. Cleaning appointments will help prevent and diagnose potential periodontal disease. Most importantly, cleanings remove plaque to prevent cavities and gum disease. In addition, it also whitens your smile and freshens your breath. Dr. Govani recommends biannual teeth cleanings for optimal oral health. For patients with periodontal disease, more frequent periodontal maintenance visits will be required to maintain healthy tissue. Sticking with recommendations for your gum health will help prevent disease progression.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride makes your teeth more resistant to cavities. In addition, it can help those with sensitive teeth or higher risk for decay due to dry mouth, bone loss or troubles keeping teeth clean. Fluoride is a common mineral that can be found in many water sources. Some sources include lakes, rivers and wells; many community water supplies have fluoride levels optimized for cavity prevention. Learn more about Fluoride here.

Dr. Govani recommends biannual fluoride varnish treatments in-office to prevent cavities in children. We also recommend fluoride for at risk senior adults, cancer patients, individuals with high cavity rates and those with dry mouth. Our team will provide fluoride as a varnish, prescription toothpaste or a take-home fluoride tray. Our team, will determine whether you’re a candidate for fluoride treatments. In addition, we will help educate and recommend options from prescription options to over-the-counter toothpastes and mouthwashes.

Sealants

Sealants are a great preventive adjunct to prevent and reduce risk of dental decay. Many times pediatric dental patients receive sealants to avoid getting cavities. In addition, some adult patients will benefit from dental sealants. Patients who will benefit from sealants have higher risk factors for decay. Examples are those patients having high risk diets, poor oral  hygiene, hard to reach regions when brushing or limited dexterity.
