Your long-term oral health partner

As your oral health advocate, Govani Dental provides complete preventative dentistry. Maintaining your oral health is our top priority. Preventative dentistry is essential to our comprehensive dental care approach and helps protect you from future dental disease and decay.

Our team is committed to providing quality oral health care to benefit your overall health. During your first appointment, we’ll take a detailed health history so we can gauge how other health factors may impact your oral health. We want to get to know you so that we can help you make good dental decisions.

All preventative services are based on your current and future health risks. If you are unsure which preventative dental services will provide optimal oral health outcomes for you, feel free to ask your dental provider. Continue reading to learn more about the experience you can expect with preventative dental services at Govani Dental.

Exams

Each new patient receives a comprehensive new patient exam. All new and periodic exams include full evaluation of soft tissues including oral cancer screening, evaluation of periodontal health, and evaluation of hard tissues including: jaw joints, bone height and the teeth themselves. Exams can be an excellent preventative measure to make sure dental disease and risks of oral cancer are assessed. Your dental hygienist and Dr. Govani will go over dental hygiene, findings and educate to help you better maintain your general oral and overall health. Some preventative measures can even be completed during your regular dental exam.

X-rays

Dental X-rays are imperative for a full view of your oral health. They are used to get baseline benchmarks and to see disease a visual exam cannot. The human eye can only see 30% of the tooth. X-rays enable Dr. Govani and her team to see baseline health as well as decay, bone loss, nerves, sinuses and to rule out pathology. These X-rays can also be used as a diagnostic tool for comparing your teeth’s current condition to their previous state. We will determine how often you need dental X-rays based on your age, oral health habits, signs of disease or decay and risk factors for future dental issues.

Teeth Cleaning and Tissue Maintenance

Although you may brush at home, getting your teeth cleaned professionally has many benefits. Teeth cleaning can help prevent periodontal disease. Most importantly, it removes plaque to prevent cavities and gum disease. It also whitens your smile and freshens your breath. Dr. Govani recommends biannual teeth cleanings for optimal oral health. In patients with periodontal disease, more frequent periodontal maintenance visits will be required to maintain healthy tissue.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride makes your teeth more resistant to cavities. It can help those with sensitive teeth or higher risk for decay due to: dry mouth, bone loss or troubles keeping teeth clean. It’s a mineral found in most water sources including lakes, rivers and wells; many community water supplies have fluoride levels optimized for cavity prevention. Learn more about Fluoride here.

Fluoride can also be found in toothpastes and mouthwash. Dr. Govani recommends biannual fluoride treatments to prevent cavities in children. Sometimes we also recommend fluoride for senior adults, cancer patients, individuals with high cavity rates and those with dry mouth. Your dentist can provide fluoride as a varnish, prescription toothpaste or a take-home fluoride tray. Dr. Govani and staff can help determine whether you’re a candidate for fluoride treatments.
